Emission Testing

Pursuant to Georgia law, the Cobb County Tax Commissioner enforces emissions testing requirements prior to issuing tags or renewal decals; however, program requirements, regulations and rules are the sole responsibility of Georgia’s Clean Air Force. Questions or concerns pertaining to this program should be directed to them via phone at 1 (800) 449-2471 or through their website, CleanAirForce.com.

Effective January 1, 2024, in Cobb County, passing vehicle emissions tests are required for 2000 – 2021 model year gasoline-powered cars and light-duty trucks (8,500 lbs gross vehicle weight rating or less). The three most recent model year vehicles are exempt from emissions testing in 2024 include all 2022 and newer model-year vehicles (2022, 2023 and 2024).

2000 - 2021 model year vehicles that are newly acquired or recently moved into the county must have proof of passed inspection within the last 12 months and must be registered within 30 days (seven days if purchased from a non-registered dealer).
